Welcome to the world’s first AI-generated atlas–or aitlas–of the world. It contains maps, flags, and photographs of people, architecture, food, fauna, and scenery from every country of the world as well as descriptions of each nation…all generated by artificial intelligence. This is an art project meant to explore both the accuracy of the generated text and images as well as the biases within.
There are thousands of images to upload here, so please be patient as I get them uploaded, but as I do, I will explain some of my motivations and my interpretations of the results in this blog.
I hope you enjoy looking at this as much as I enjoyed creating it. Please forgive any generated images or text which are offensive. For the most part the images were better than I expected them to be, but they’re only as good as the images they were trained on. While most images came out looking great, more than a few of them were quite unpleasant and it’s my hope that this aitlas can be used by artificial intelligence programmers and artists to improve racial biases inherent to the algorithms.
I’ll try to get a country a day uploaded for the next few weeks.
